'The Rovers' avenge October loss to 'The Centurions'

The final match of 2024 brought TUFFLEY ROVERS to The Talent Hire Stadium for a Hellenic League - Premier Division fixture and following an entertaining match ‘The Rovers’ returned to Gloucester with the 3-points as they took full advantage when Cirencester were reduced to ten-men 32 minutes into the contest.
As in the reverse fixture in October, the match started very positively with both sides attacking at every opportunity, but it was the home side that created the first clear attempt on goal as ‘keeper Luke Merchant was called upon to save a powerful header from Ross Gabriel after five minutes.
The home side pressed and the visitors countered quickly in this end-to-end contest and it was the pace of Karnell Chambers that changed the game as he burst down the centre to be tripped by the last defender before he could enter the home box – for the culprit to be awarded a straight Red Card. Former Centurion MARK PRITCHETT stepped forward and drove the ball into the bottom right corner.
Five minutes after the interval Tuffley added a second when KIERAN ALDER sent a precise free kick over the ‘wall’ and into the bottom left corner.
Despite the setback, and being one man down, Cirencester continued to push forward whilst the visitors often used the pace of Chambers to stretch the home defence and although they created a couple of 1v1 situations the visitors did not add to their tally until BRADLEY BEVAN tucked his shot into the net in ‘added-time’.
