Our Under 9's start 2012 with a strong performance at home to Abbeymead

09 January 2012 at 16:58

Cotswold Youth League

Cirencester Town U.9's 7 - 0 Abbeymead Rovers U.9's

The first footballing weekend of the year saw CTFC U9's in action against Abbeymeads Gloucester, at home.

Abbeymeads kicked-off on the stroke off 11:00 and Cirencester pressurised from the first touch. With most of the football played in the Abbeymeads half, a goal was inevitable, however Abbeymeads fought to keep Cirencester out. The midfield pressurised the goal-keeper and Aaron Burcham picked up a short goal kick put a shotty-cross towards Philip Mclaughlin who scored after 7 mins.

Cirencester kept the pressure on and Abbeymeads did all they could to keep Cirencester at bay. However Jonny Floyd wound up for a powerful low drive from the right-hand-side to make it 2-0. Moments later saw a similar goal from Ben Carter on the left.

The midfield were playing well together passing the ball from one side to the other and whilst the Abbeymeads defence were committed on the left William Dyer's patience on the right was rewarded when he found the back of the net just before half-time 4-0.

Several changes saw an almost unrecognisable Cirencester team after half time with Kian Hawtin featuring in left midfield and Luke Buck on the right. Aaron Burcham moved to striker and made an almost immediate impact, taking a pass from William to spin and score.

Kian was enjoying his time on the left and made a great run up the flank and put a great ball into Aaron who tapped it in at the back post. Straight from the kick off Jonny pressurised, won position, charged up field to chip the keeper 7-0.

Credit to Abbeymeads as they never gave up and kept battling but Rio was only troubled once towards the end and kept a clean sheet. There were several chances but no goals in the last quarter mainly due to solid Abbeymeads defence and some great saves by their goalie.

Man of the match went to Kian for a controlled performance at the back and liberated energy in midfield.
