Chippenham Preview

30 September 2011 at 13:47

Cirencester Town look forward to a local derby on Saturday when they play host to near neighbours Chippenham Town in a hastily re-arranged Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division clash at the Corinium Stadium.

With Cirencester losing in the FA Cup and Chippenham being excluded from the FA Cup this game has been brought forward from its original date of Tuesday 15th November. With the sun shining as it is at the moment it means a great opportunity for football fans of both teams to come out and see two sides giving it their all as is often the case when the two teams meet.Last season saw the two sides battle out draws in both fixtures between the sides.

There are many top strikers in the Evo-Stik Premier Division and Chippenham certainly have a pair that are right up there with the best in the league.

Dave Gilroy

In 28 year old Dave Gilroy they have a striker with an excellent goal record. Having played for clubs such as Bristol Rovers, Newport County, Bath City, Weston-Super-Mare and Woking he has experience and in his first spell at Chippenham between 2005 & 2007 he scored 55 goals in 108 appearances. After leaving Chippenham he carried on that hot streak with an even better goal ratio at Bath City scoring 41 goals in 71 games during 2007 & 2009. After a more recent spell at Woking in the Blue Square Conference South he has this season returned to Chippenham and already has 5 league goals to his name.

Alan Griffin

Another handful is striker Alan Griffin who is a good old fashioned target man for the Bluebirds and last season he caused the Cirencester Town defence all sorts of problems with his robust style. Not only does Griffin create goals with his physical approach but he also has the ability to score goals and the Cirencester Town defence will have their hands full with Gilroy and Griffin.

Chippenham currently lay 12th in the table having won 5 drawn 1 and lost 4 of their opening league games and have 16 points.

Their last four league games have seen them win 4-1, draw 0-0, win 3-0 and lose 3-0.

Cirencester Town's last four league games have seen a 0-0 draw, two 1-0 defeats and a 2-0 win. The performance at Brackley Town last weekend though showed what the side is capable of and its hoped that form will continue this weekend.

Jared Wilson

Jared Wilson trained with the team on Thursday night and has signed from Blue Square Conference North Side Worcester City and he goes straight into the squad for the game.

Right-back, Wilson signed for Worcester City this summer following a year out of football. He started his career with Birmingham City and made his first team debut as a substitute at Queens Park Rangers in October 2008 (1 FL app). He joined Chesterfield on loan in 2009 (16 FL apps) but was released by the Blues in June 2010. Things haven't worked out for him at Worcester and through manager Brian Hughes friendship with Worcester City boss Carl Heeley this signing became possible. With it appearing likely that Neil Arndale has played his last game for the club due to work committments in the Bristol area it is hoped that Wilson will fill the void left by Arndale.

Kev Sawyer

As reported earlier in the week, goalkeeper Kev Sawyer returns to the Corinium Stadium for his third spell and he will start in goal.

The match kicks off at the Corinium Stadium at 3:00pm
