It was perhaps inevitable that, with the two sides that have currently conceded the least goals in the division in opposition, there would be no goals to show and so it proved at The Mackoy Stadium in this 3rd v 1st fixture.
With a swirling wind and firm, bumpy pitch added to the mix it certainly made for a difficult afternoon for both sides and few clear chances.
During the first quarter much of the play was down the one side of the pitch, with an early shot from Ben Whitehead into the grateful arms of Ryan Gosney and a shot on the turn from Dan Mason blocked for a corner kick.
As the half progressed both sides of the pitch saw some action and shortly after the mid-point Josh Nelmes fired over and ten minutes later Stuart Green shot into the side-netting from a narrow angle and as the interval loomed a curling cross from Tom Handley passed just wide of the far-right post.
Almost immediately from the re-start Levi Irving fired into the side-netting and then Green over the bar and by the hour mark play was very scrappy as neither side was able to mount an attack of worth or retain the ball for long and whilst the home side reached the left by-line a few times they couldn’t find a way through the Cirencester defence.
As the game was drawing to a close there was a final flurry of activity at each end of the pitch but it remained goal-less.
