Cirencester Town avenge early season defeat

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Fairford Town  1 - 3  Cirencester Town

The Centurions travelled to neighbours FAIRFORD TOWN for their latest Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division fixture and following a competitive, incident-packed, end-to-end match, recovered from going a goal down to secure victory.

The match started at a frantic pace from the off - both sides having ‘goals’ disallowed in the opening 15-minutes – and with the attacking intent from both sides it was surprising that it took until shortly before the interval to break the deadlock.

Shortly after a strong claim for a Penalty Kick from the visitors, the home side countered to send a corner kick into the ‘mix’ for CHRIS ZEBROSKI to finish from close range.

Two minutes later it was all-square again as HARLIE PRICE managed to do the same at the other end of the pitch.

A few minutes after the re-start Harrison Edwards charged into the Cirencester box to be denied in a 1v1 with Ronnie Newbery, and shortly afterwards Cirencester took the lead following a weaving run and strike from IEUAN BAILEY.

At the mid-point of the half Cirencester had a series of corner kicks, complete with a goal-line clearance, before the action was at the other end for another goal-line clearance.

As the game was drawing to a close the home side sent more attacking players on but as they pressed Cirencester countered quickly for THEO JEREMY to provide the required finish.

In ‘added-time’ both sides had ‘goals’ disallowed and at the final whistle the visitors had secured victory to avenge their August defeat by their neighbours.
