The Plums complete the double over The Centurions

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Cirencester Town  0 - 2  Pershore Town

The Centurions returned to The Talent Hire Stadium for their latest Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division fixture to face PERSHORE TOWN – and following a competitive encounter the visitors left with the three points thanks to two second-half goals and a stubborn defence.

The game started at a brisk pace with ‘keeper Ronnie Newbery producing a strong reflex save to deny the visitors in the opening minutes and shortly afterwards Cirencester being denied by goal-line blocks following a scramble in the visitor’s goalmouth

By the mid-point of the half Cirencester were pressing and the visitors countering at pace with some fluid movement.

A few minutes before the interval the home side nearly opened their account when both Harlie Price and Jack Horrell fired over the bar – the former following a swift break, and the latter a strike from the edge of the box.

It had been a competitive first half with plenty of endeavour but little quality and the second was much the same - Cirencester pressing, but unable to break through a defence well marshalled by Jack Neal and Chris Gregan.

At the mid-point of the second half JAMIE LUCAS broke the deadlock as he darted forward to head a free kick inside the right post.

The game became ‘tetchy’ and frantic resulting in a number of free kicks and ‘Cards’ being awarded and inside the final scheduled ten minutes TINO SHUMBA drove the ball inside the far-right post to seal victory for his team - despite desperate efforts from the home side.
