'The Glass' end The Centurions unbeaten run

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Roman Glass St George  3 - 0  Cirencester Town

Cirencester’s 10-game unbeaten run in the Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division came to an end at the hands of high-flying ROMAN GLASS St. GEORGE at Oaklands Park, the Gloucestershire FA Headquarters, following a controversial opening goal for the hosts and a performance from the visitors that showed glimpses of the levels of recent weeks.

The game started positively for both sides as Cirencester worked their flanks and ‘The Glass’ countered with quick breaks – an early strike from Joe McClennan caught by Ronnie Newbery and a corner kick defended by the hosts – and it continued in this fashion for the first quarter.

Just after the mid-point the home side opened the scoring in somewhat controversial circumstances as a raised flag from the Assistant Referee, before it was crossed to the other flank, resulted in a moment’s delay from the visitors enabling JOE McCLENNAN to cross the ball inside the far-right post. Despite remonstrations from the visitors the Referee did not discuss with his Assistant and the goal stood.  1-0.

‘The Glass’ added a second twelve minutes later when JENNISON WILLIAMS scored from the Penalty Spot after a quick counter attack had been brought to an abrupt end.  2-0.

After the interval Cirencester pressed and came close when a well-worked corner routine provided space for a Harlie Price strike that was blocked on the line.

In ‘added-time’ TYLER WOOD was gifted the ball and he took full advantage as he burst into the Cirencester box to tuck his shot inside the right post.  3-0.
