The Bassett Boys victorious at The Talent Hire Stadium again

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Cirencester Town  1 - 2  Royal Wootton Bassett Town

For their final match of 2025 The Centurions played host to near neighbours ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT TOWN and it was the visitors that secured victory for the second time this season at The Talent Hire Stadium with a performance of pace and effort against a strangely subdued Cirencester.

The game began in very open fashion with Cirencester nearly opening the scoring after six minutes when a free kick rebound was poked towards the line and cleared.

The action soon became end-to-end but shortly after the half-hour a clever reverse pass from Ed Taylor provided the opening that led to RUDI HOPKINS tucking the ball into the net from a couple of yards.

Within minutes a superb save from home ‘keeper Ronnie Newbery denied Hopkins a second goal and towards the end of the half a Jonty Welch effort nearly levelled the score.

Immediately after the re-start Cirencester worked the ball into the visitor’s box but took too long to get the shot away and this proved symptomatic of the home performance as their quicker opponents constantly shut them down and countered quickly.

Just after the hour-mark as Cirencester pressed the ball was lost for Bassett to counter to the edge of the home box where NATHANIEL BELL provided the finish.

As the game was drawing to a close Cirencester were awarded a debateable free kick that was delivered to the far-right post where AFONSO DIAS fired it inside the left post to set up a frantic finish to the game.
