'The Centurions' take the points in tough battle with 'The Rovers'

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Cirencester Town 3 - 0  Tuffley Rovers

TUFFLEY ROVERS visited The Talent Hire Stadium for a revised Hellenic League - Premier Division fixture and following a tough match, and despite striking the woodwork twice, ‘The Rovers’ returned to Gloucester empty-handed.

The match started positively although neither side retained the ball for long but gradually play settled with Cirencester pressing with their more patient build-up play and Tuffley mounting quick counter attacks.

As the game entered the second quarter a superbly-timed tackle from Ed Scott denied Karnell Chambers a shooting opportunity and within minutes Cirencester opened the scoring when THEO JEREMY smashed the ball through a crowded goalmouth into the net.

As the interval approached Scott blocked a goal-bound effort from Kieran Alder on the home goal-line and ‘keeper Ronnie Newbery made a reflex save to prevent a diverted shot entering his net.

Ten minutes into the second half ED SCOTT scored from close-range following a scramble in the goalmouth and six minutes later HARLIE PRICE converted from the Penalty Spot to give the home side a three-goal cushion.

Despite the score-line Tuffley continued to battle and struck the woodwork twice during the last ten minutes.
