Two superb strikes secure the points for Highworth

Uhlsport Hellenic League
Premier Division
Cirencester Town 1 - 2 Highworth Town
The Centurions first ‘home’ Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division fixture of the new season brought local rivals HIGHWORTH TOWN to The Talent Hire Stadium and despite a dominant performance in terms of possession from Cirencester, two superb strikes secured victory and the points for The Worthians.
The Worthians kicked off to attack the home side but after the initial threat had been repelled Cirencester took control as they dominated possession with neat, flowing passing moves and movement, but at the mid-point of the first half Highworth opened the scoring with two goals in two minutes – a sensational strike from OLLIE STEVENSON and a long-range effort from RHYS WELLS .
The visitors continued to deny the home side, despite being put under immense pressure, until late in the second half when GEORGE PEARE forced the ball home from close range.
Eight minutes later Cirencester thought they had equalised following a corner kick but the Assistant Referee had his flag raised and after consultation the ‘goal’ was disallowed.
As Cirencester pressed in the final minutes Highworth countered for Bailey Gallagher to be denied by ‘keeper Ronnie Newbery in a 1v1.
