The Centurions recover to secure their first point of the season

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Royal Wootton Bassett Town  1 - 1  Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the short trip across the county line to face ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT TOWN for their second away fixture of the new season in the Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division and after a very competitive match returned with a point.

In a game that became more-feisty as it progressed the home sides strong tackling and disruptive tactics prevented Cirencester from settling and as a result play became very disjointed with neither side retaining the ball for long.

BEN CLEARY opened the scoring when he collected a home clearance and slipped the ball past an advancing Ronnie Newbery.

Moments before the interval Newbery denied Cleary again with a fine reaction block.

Cirencester came out in more determined mood for the second half but play became frantic and disrupted by free kicks, players receiving attention from their Physio and Cards being issued by the Referee.

Ethan Rose had the ball in the back of the home net but it was ruled out for ‘offside’.

Following a quick counter attack Cleary clipped the top of the Cirencester bar and as the game entered the final five minutes (before ‘added-time was announced) HARLIE PRICE equalised.

Cirencester increased the pressure leading up to the final whistle but the home defence refused to be breached.
