Cirencester Town defeated by neighbours in Bank Holiday league fixture

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Cirencester Town  2 - 4  Fairford Town

Following their success in the Isuzu FA Vase competition on Saturday, Cirencester returned to The Talent Hire Stadium for an Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division fixture against near neighbours FAIRFORD TOWN and following an entertaining and competitive match the visitors secured victory.

Both sides started the match in positive fashion with Cirencester working the ball down their flanks and Fairford responding with quick counter attacks as their fluid forward line stretched the home defence, but it was defenders ADAM MACE and DAN HILL that secured the interval lead for the visitors with two strikes from distance in the ten-minute period before the break.

Within five minutes of the re-start Fairford added a third goal when SOL PRYCE managed to force the ball into the net during a close-range scramble following a corner kick.

Almost immediately the visitors added another when TINO SHUMBA collected a cross-field pass, advanced and tucked the ball past an advancing Ronnie Newbery.

Despite the scoreline Cirencester continued to play their football as they fought back to score before the mid-point of the half when FINLEY BELL fired the ball into the top left corner and as the game entered the final ten minutes a JONTY WELCH strike took a deflection on its way into the net.

As the final whistle approached Cirencester continued to press but were unable to add any further goals.
