Cirencester avenge last season's FA Vase defeat

The Isuzu FA Vase

First Round Qualifying

Oldland Abbotonians  0 - 5  Cirencester Town

The Centurions travelled to Bristol for this First Round Qualifying match in The Isuzu FA Vase to face OLDLAND ABBOTONIANS – from the Jewson Western Football League - Premier Division - and after a competitive match on a very hard pitch they avenged last season’s 1-0 defeat to move through to the next round of the competition.

Following a competitive opening period, as both sides tested their opponents, it was the visitors that opened their account shortly before the mid-point of the half when KYLE PITTS headed a corner kick into the top left corner.

Cirencester continued to push forward and the home ‘keeper was called upon a couple of times to prevent further goals whilst the visitors defence was dealing with the counter attacks from their hosts.

Six minutes after the interval a Jack Horrell free kick resulted in an OWN GOAL when a defender headed the kick over the home ‘keeper and ten minutes later debutant THEO JEREMY finished off a fine run by slipping the ball past an advancing home ‘keeper.

As the game moved into the final quarter JONTY WELCH added a fourth with a composed finish into FRASER BELL completed the scoring with a curling strike from the edge of the home box.

To their credit the home side made a number of swift counter attacks but were unable to make them count on the day.
