The Centurions avenge early season defeat in final league match of the season

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Malmesbury Victoria  0 - 1  Cirencester Town

For their final Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division match of the season The Centurions made the short journey to The Flying Monk Ground for a mid-week fixture against neighbours MALMESBURY VICTORIA and after a hard-fought match on a very firm pitch the visitors recorded a narrow victory to avenge their early season defeat.

From the start the match was competitive, and end-to-end, as the very firm pitch made control and ball retention difficult for both sets of players but it was the home side that tested their opponents ‘keeper first with a fierce strike that was parried by Ronnie Newbery.

Gradually The Centurions began to settle and pass the ball about and at the mid-point of the half Finley Bell played a ball down the right channel for JAYDEN STRATFORD to collect and tuck inside the far-left post with a composed finish.

Leading up to the interval Cirencester played the more controlled football but their hosts were dangerous on the quick counter attack.

After the break Malmesbury came out ‘guns blazing’ as they made a number of quick attacks to test the Cirencester defence - including an effort that rebounded off the crossbar, a 1v1 and a goal-line clearance – but Cirencester survived to gradually threaten themselves as the game was drawing to a close.
