'The Swans' secure the 'double' over The Centurions

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Slimbridge  1 - 0  Cirencester Town

The Centurions returned to Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division action, following their exit from the Marsh (UHL) Challenge Cup at the weekend, as they travelled the comparatively short distance to SLIMBRIDGE where a goal scored midway into the first half was enough to secure the ‘double’ for ‘The Swans’.

The match was played on a cold evening that became colder as the game progressed - with the pitch becoming firmer – resulting in little quality for the purists attending.

Cirencester started positively - with an early shot from Jack Horrell that was wide of the left post - and they saw much of the ball without proving able to penetrate the home defence who launched quick counter attacks that often culminated in throw-ins from their right corner.

Shortly before the mid-point Cirencester were reduced to 10-men when Harrison Reeves was sent to the ‘sin-bin’ for ‘dissent’ and the home side took full advantage of his absence as a few minutes later a KIEREN BENNETT header looped inside the right post.

With their noses in front Slimbridge finished the half strongly and consequently during the interval Cirencester re-organised with several positional changes.

The second half became more frantic with numerous free kicks awarded so neither side kept the ball for long – and whilst Cirencester pressed hard until the final whistle they could not break through the determined home defence.
