Marsh Sports Insurance (UHL) Challenge Cup
Fourth Round
Clanfield 85 1 (8) - 1 (7) Cirencester Town
The Centurions travelled to CLANFIELD 85 for this Fourth-Round fixture in the Marsh Sports Insurance (UHL) Challenge Cup and after an extra time equaliser took the cup-tie to a Penalty shoot-out the result was decided by the 22nd spot-kick in favour of the hosts.
Cirencester dominated possession for the first 30 minutes on a thawing, soft pitch but the home side gradually worked their way into the game and it was all-square at the interval.
Before the hour-mark was reached ANDY LEWIS opened the scoring for the visitors with a spectacular overhead, scissor kick.
The game became more open with goal-mouth blocks at both ends of the pitch until with literally the last throw of the dice the home side launched a long throw-in into the Cirencester box that resulted in a scramble before ENDRI STATHI tucked it into the net.
Cirencester were leading 3-1 after 3 pairs of penalties but it was level after the compulsory 5 sets, but it was finally decided when the ‘keepers took the last set in favour of the hosts.
