The Centurions held in the Floodlit Cup Final (First Leg) tie

Wiseman Lighting (UHL) Floodlit Cup

Final  (First Leg)

Cirencester Town  2 - 2  Westfields FC

The Centurions were involved in another entertaining ‘game of two halves’ at The Talent Hire Stadium in the Wiseman Lighting (UHL) Floodlit Cup when WESTFIELDS FC recovered from a 2-goal deficit to level the First Leg tie of the Final to take home advantage back to Allpay Park for the Second Leg.

The game started at a fast pace as within the first five minutes both sides had been awarded free kicks and caught ‘offside’.

Cirencester began to press down their flanks with some flowing football and during the first quarter there were a number attempts at goal with Harrison Reeves, Finley Bell and Ross Gabriel all prominent as they tested ‘keeper Shay Sterry.

The visitors however came close to opening the scoring when a Ben Brooks free kick dipped sharply to clip the home crossbar and as the 30-minute mark approached a Westfields cross from their right corner reached the back post but was not converted.

During the next few minutes as Cirencester pressed more chances went begging before ROSS GABRIEL was supplied on the edge of the box to rifle his strike into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later Cirencester added a second when a corner kick from the right reached KYLE PITTS at the back post and he bundled the ball over the line from close range.

The response from the visitors was immediate as a swift counter attack found DAN STONEMAN who cut along the left byline to shoot/cross with his effort being deflected past home custodian Ronnie Newbery.

Within minutes both sides had created openings but gradually Westfields began to dominate possession and at the mid-point of the half the visitors equalised when BRANDON JENNINGS headed a corner kick into the top left corner.

As the game was drawing to a close both sides threatened but neither could break through and it ended all-square going to the Second Leg.
