Determined Longlevens avenge November loss to The Centurions

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Cirencester Town  1 - 4  Longlevens

The final ‘home’ league fixture of the 2024-25 Season brought LONGLEVENS to The Talent Hire Stadium and after a disappointing performance from The Centurions the visitors took the points.

The match started at a brisk pace as Cirencester pushed forward with the visitor’s content to counter quickly with the dangerous Shiyak Sutherland particularly prominent as he tested home custodian Ronnie Newbery several times in the first 30-minutes.

Cirencester responded as Aidan Bennett struck the visitors crossbar with a fine effort from the left side of the box.

Shortly afterwards, as Cirencester pressed again, Longlevens countered and a surprise strike from 30 yards by SHIYAK SUTHERLAND into the bottom left corner - despite Newbery getting a hand to it – opened their account.

Within minutes of the re-start Longlevens added a second when JACK BEARDSELL burst down the right channel to shoot towards the far-left post where a desperate attempt to block from a covering Ogaga Edward couldn’t prevent the ball entering the net.

With the two-goal cushion the visitors continued their game plan as they countered quickly again when Sam Kelly darted down their left flank to pull the ball back from the bye-line to a supporting JACK BYARD who drove it into the net from 12-yards.

As the game was drawing to a close JACK FREEMAN reduced the arrears with a firm strike into the bottom right corner from 25-yards but Longlevens replied with a driving run from from half-way by ALEX KNIGHT and a fine strike to complete the scoring.
