A Kyle Pitts brace secures a Semi-Final place
Wiseman Lighting (UHL) Floodlit Cup
Quarter Final
Malmesbury Victoria 0 - 2 Cirencester Town
Cirencester made the short journey to near neighbours MALMESBURY VICTORIA for this mid-week Quarter Final fixture in the Wiseman Lighting (UHL) Floodlit Cup and two strikes in the final quarter secured their place in the next round of the Competition.
On a cold evening the hosts kicked off proceedings and immediately attacked down their left flank before Cirencester responded by working their flanks and by the mid-point of the half there had been goalmouth scrambles at both ends of the pitch, and as the half continued both sides cancelled one another out in an inevitably competitive and scrappy first period.
The visitors started the second half very positively as they pressured their hosts from kick-off, particularly down the left flank, and by the mid-point of the half had had two strong Penalty Kick appeals rejected by the Referee before they were awarded one as Finley Bell cut right on the left side edge of the home box to be upended. The very young Will Tubbs (on loan from Forest Green Rovers) saved the spot kick but from the resulting corner kick KYLE PITTS bundled the ball over the line from close range.
A few minutes later KYLE PITTS scored again when he collected a clearance, cut left into the box and unleashed a fierce strike that bounced over the diving Tubbs.
Despite their continued efforts the home side were unable to break through The Centurions resolute defence.
