The Centurions reach the Fourth Round of the Marsh (UHL) Challenge Cup via Penalty Shoot-out

Marsh Sports Insurance (UHL) Challenge Cup

Third Round

Highworth Town  1 (5) - 1 (6)  Cirencester Town

At the third attempt - postponed for waterlogged pitch and abandoned after a floodlight failure being the previous attempts - The Centurions finally completed this Third-Round fixture in the Marsh Sports Insurance (UHL) Challenge Cup against their neighbours HIGHWORTH TOWN and following an exciting match and a Penalty Shoot-out they were rewarded with a place in the Fourth Round of the competition.

To ensure the match was played Highworth forfeited their home advantage and agreed to reverse the fixture to The Talent Hire Stadium and it was perhaps fitting, having led in the previous abandoned attempt by three goals to nil, that Cirencester should secure an early lead as BONSA TESHOME let rip with a thunderbolt from the edge of the Highworth Penalty Area that flew into the top left corner.

Cirencester continued to press throughout the first half but failed to add to their score and this pattern continued in the second period as Highworth ‘Keeper Oliver Gargett pulled off several excellent saves to keep them at bay.

As the final whistle loomed LUKE WHELAN struck a firm, diagonal drive into the bottom corner to keep his side in the contest and this resulted in a Penalty Shoot-out that Cirencester won with the 14th Penalty Kick – 6 goals to 5.

A very entertaining game complete with a Penalty Shoot-out.
