Despite a much improved second half The Centurions fall short at The Sustain Stadium
Uhlsport Hellenic League
Premier Division
Royal Wootton Bassett Town 3 - 2 Cirencester Town
Cirencester made the short trip into Wiltshire to face ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT TOWN at The Sustain Stadium in their 5th away fixture in the Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division and despite a much improved second half fell short by the odd goal in five against their more experienced opponents.
The visitors kicked off and immediately lost possession as their more experienced opponents took control to dominate the first 30-minutes - scoring two goals in the process.
The first as a result of a forceful 50-yard run by Noah Coates, down their right channel, before delivering it towards the Penalty Spot where CHRIS ZEBROSKI was waiting to poke it into the net.
Seven-minutes later, following a counter attack, TOMMY OULDRIDGE scored from the right channel of the Cirencester box.
During the closing stages of the half Cirencester began to show signs of a positive reaction to being ‘two-down’ and they came out for the second half with conviction, and almost immediately were awarded a Penalty Kick that JACK HORRELL tucked into the bottom right corner.
‘Bassett’ regained their two-goal advantage when a deep cross from their right flank was ‘nodded’ back into the ‘mix’ of the 6-yard box where CHRIS ZEBROSKI prodded it into the net.
Despite this setback The Centurions continued to play their brand of football, and in the latter stages HARLEY ARNOLD produced a composed finish to reduce the arrears.
More pressure followed from the visitors but the home side held out to secure the points.
