A very late Penalty Kick snatches victory away from The Centurions

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Cirencester Town  2 - 2  Thornbury Town

THORNBURY TOWN were the latest visitors to The Talent Hire Stadium for a mid-week Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division fixture and following a tight match between the teams a Penalty Kick deep into extra time secured a draw for the visitors.

'The Thorns’ started quickly to press their hosts with some neat and direct football, whilst ‘The Centurions’ took a little longer to get going and as the interval approached a quick counter attack from the visitors released HARRY BROCK for an unopposed run down their right flank before he smashed the ball into the net to open the scoring.

Ten minutes into the second half ETHAN ROSE cut inside from the right corner to drive the ball inside the far-left post.

Cirencester were pressing their visitors more often in the second half and took the lead late in the scheduled 90 minutes when CRAIG GRAHAM darted forward to head, a deflected cross home, from close range.

During the announced five minutes of ‘added-time’ Thornbury pressed forward and after that point, following a corner kick, they were awarded a Penalty Kick.  MARCUS WORMWELL stepped up to drive the kick into the bottom right corner to level the score.

A minute later Thornbury could have taken all 3 points when a cross was flicked over the bar from the edge of the 6-yard box.
