Late goal knocks The Centurions out of the FA Vase

The Isuzu FA Vase

First Round Qualifying

Oldland Abbotonians  1 - 0  Cirencester Town

The Centurions travelled to Bristol for this First Round Qualifying match in The Isuzu FA Vase to meet OLDLAND ABBOTONIANS and after a spirited display were knocked out of the competition when they conceded a late goal made.

Oldland Abbotonians compete in the Toolstation Western League - Premier Division and have obtained 6 points from their opening 5 games to sit in 11th place in the relevant table.

Due to non-availability Cirencester took a very young squad to face The Abbots and had to shuffle the pack in terms of positions but never-the-less gave a spirited account of themselves as they held their hosts until the 83rd minutes when OWEN McCALLUM latched onto a long ball down their right flank and had the composure to lob the advancing Sam Ayres from 25 yards.

A couple of minutes later the visitor’s custodian saved a Penalty Kick to keep The Centurions hopes alive but it was not to be and it is The Abbots that advance to the next round.
