Fairford Town secure victory in local derby match

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Cirencester Town  0 - 3  Fairford Town

The latest visitors to The Talent Hire Stadium for an Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division fixture was near neighbours FAIRFORD TOWN and following an entertaining match the visitors secured victory to continue their positive, unbeaten start to the new season.

Both sides started the match in positive fashion with Cirencester working the ball down their flanks and Fairford responding with quick counter attacks but approaching the mid-point of the half Cirencester suffered a setback when Dave Bampton had to leave the pitch for treatment to a head injury and whilst the home side were a man down Fairford opened their account as a cross from the right was headed into the home net for an OWN GOAL.

Leading up to the interval Fairford struck again when Jamal Lawrence made a strong run along the right byline before playing the ball into the home 6-yard box where CHARLIE HOLLIDAY was waiting to tap it into the open net.

After the break Cirencester produced a number of neat moves but were unable to open their account whilst the visitors looked the more likely as they put the home defence under pressure.

In ‘added-time’ Fairford were awarded a Penalty Kick and skipper JAMAL LAWRENCE duly drove the ball into the net a few seconds before the final whistle was blown.
