Fairford Town score seven against depleted Centurions in FA Cup

Emirates FA Cup
Extra Preliminary Round
Fairford Town 7 - 0 Cirencester Town
Following their voluntary relegation at the end of last season The Centurions opened their Emirates FA Cup campaign at the Extra Preliminary Round stage with an away tie against local rivals FAIRFORD TOWN and were put to the sword by their neighbours as they conceded seven goals without reply.
On a very warm afternoon the early exchanges were fairly even although the hosts looked the more dangerous and balanced when compared to the new, young Centurion squad and it was Fairford that opened the scoring after 12 minutes when JAMAL LAWRENCE scored from the edge of the box.
Whilst Cirencester threatened through counter attacks the home side increased the pressure and added a second when CHARLIE McCRAE curled his shot inside the far-left post.
A few minutes later, following a period of ‘pin-ball’ in the Cirencester box, a defender blocked a goal-bound shot with his hand and was duly dismissed and a Penalty Kick awarded. JOE SHUTT duly obliged from the spot and the home side went to the break with a 3-goal and extra-man advantage for the second half.
As expected, the home side dominated the second half adding four more goals through JOE SHUTT, JAMAL LAWRENCE, CHARLES HOLLIDAY and CHARLIE McCRAE but it must be said the visitors battled to the end as the newly assembled squad search for team cohesion.
