Following the decision to ‘Voluntarily Resign’ from the Southern League, Cirencester Town began their preparations for the 2024-25 Season in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Hellenic League with a Pre-Season Friendly fixture against CLANFIELD 85 who finished in 3rd place last season in Division 1 of the same league and after an entertaining match - played at brisk pace for an opening fixture – it ended all-square.
With many of last season’s squad having departed, following the decision to drop down a division, it was a very young squad that took on the visitors and after some positive opening play it was the home side that conceded a goal after 26 minutes.
Cirencester responded well to the setback and equalised ten minutes later before adding another a few minutes before the interval.
The second half also began at a brisk pace with a couple of goals within the opening five minutes as the visitors levelled with a quick attack that consisted of three passes before the ball was in the back of the home net and the young Centurions responded to regain the lead almost immediately.
The match continued with plenty of free-flowing football and as the final whistle loomed the visitors equalised.
Taking into account the limited training time before the match the pace of the match was certainly a surprise to most attending.
A good effort all round.
