Another 'Rovers' team defeat The Centurions in Severn Sport Shield

Severn Sport Shield
Third Place Play-off
Tuffley Rovers 1 – 0 Cirencester Town
The fourth Pre-Season match for the Cirencester squad took them to Oldends Lane for a ‘Third Place Play-off’ match in the SEVERN SPORT SHIELD against TUFFLEY ROVERS and a solitary goal was enough to secure victory for the ‘Rovers’ in a tight game.
Cirencester started the match positively with a couple of attempts on goal in the opening five minutes – the second a Jack Freeman free kick that ‘keeper Luke Merchant pushed over his crossbar – but by the mid-point of the half both sides were pushing forward at every opportunity and the game became ‘end-to-end’ as they cancelled one another out.
As the half drew to a close Karnell Chambers fired an effort into the side netting and Lewis Thorne one over the bar so it remained goal-less at the break.
The deadlock was finally broken on the hour when a pass down Tuffley’s right channel was collected by KARNELL CHAMBERS who smashed it into the roof of the net from 12 yards.
As in the first half neither side kept possession for long and in the final quarter Chambers fired a low shot towards the bottom right corner that ‘keeper Ronnie Newberry did well to push around the post.
Shortly before the final whistle a chance to prolong the game went begging and Tuffley secured third place in the competition.
