Pre-Season Friendly

Cirencester Town  4 - 0  North Leigh

Match summary by Dave Pyzer

The Centurions faced former Southern League opponents NORTH LEIGH for this second Pre-Season Friendly match at The Talent Hire Stadium and a first half hat-trick for George Peare proved too much for the visitors to recover from despite a spirited and competitive second period.

The visitors were relegated from the Southern League at the end of last season, having finished bottom of the Central Division, and will compete in the Combined Counties League – Premier Division North when the 2025-26 commences.

As in the previous pre-season friendly match Cirencester elected to make multiple changes during the interval with only two players returning for the second half.

The game started at a brisk pace with Cirencester pressing forward and the opening goal came as a result of some intricate passing down their left flank that resulted in an advanced Jordan Morris crossing from the bye-line to the back post where GEORGE PEARE arrived to head inside the right post.

Six minutes later after a couple of attacks from the visitors had been repelled Cirencester broke out to supply GEORGE PEARE some 35 yards from goal, he turned, took a couple of steps and rifled a low, ferocious strike into the bottom left corner.

The visitors responded with a move involving several players down their right flank and when their striker was released into the home box Cirencester’s young ‘keeper, Josh Sawyer (son of legend Kevin), blocked the resulting effort with his legs before collecting the rebound off a supporting opponent.

Shortly after the mid-point GEORGE PEARE collected a pass into the visitor’s box and slipped it past the advancing ‘keeper to complete his hat-trick.

Five minutes before the interval an alert HARLIE PRICE found the back of the net from close range following a corner kick.

Half Time:   4-0

Following the multiple changes the opening ten minutes was fairly even but shortly after the hour mark, as the visitors pressed, Cirencester countered for Finley Bell to ride two tackles before sending a low cross through the 6-yard box without contact.

Thirty minutes into the half Bonsa Teshome cut right from the left channel, 25 yards out, and sent the ball right to Fraser Bell as he entered the visitors box and his pass into the mix resulted in a couple of corner kicks and a header over the bar.

The remaining minutes were a little scrappy with few chances created.

Full Time:   4-0

A competitive game with Cirencester’s clinical finishing in the first half proving decisive.
