The first Pre-Season Friendly, in preparation for the upcoming season, brought CLANFIELD 85 to The Talent Hire Stadium and after an entertaining match it was the home side that secured victory.
Last season the visitors finished third in Division One of the Uhlsport Hellenic League but missed out on promotion when they were defeated in the ‘play-offs’. During the season CLANFIELD 85 also knocked Cirencester out of the Marsh Sports Insurance (UHL) Challenge Cup at the Fourth Round stage following a Penalty shoot-out.
The home side dominated possession and created a number of openings but it took a firm, low strike from HARRISON REEVES seven minutes before the interval to break the deadlock.
Half Time: 1-0
Cirencester made ten changes for the second half to ensure everyone had some game time and four minutes into the second period added to their score when ROSS GABRIEL produced a clinical finish at the near post from a George Peare cross from the right byline.
Five minutes later Bonsa Teshome produced some trickery before cutting into the Clanfield Penalty Area where he was brought to ground and a Penalty kick was awarded. ROSS GABRIEL drove the spot kick inside the right post as the visitors ‘keeper dived in the opposite direction.
As the game was drawing to a close FINLEY BELL chased and collected a ball in the left corner before darting inside the visitor’s box to smash the ball inside the near left post.
Full Time: 4-0
A competitive game with Cirencester proving more clinical in the second half.
