The Centurions latest Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division fixture took them to CORSHAM TOWN on a cold, damp afternoon for an earlier than usual kick-off, and they put in a solid team performance to return with the 3-points on offer – thereby avenging their 6-2 defeat in August.

The home side kicked-off and they immediately launched the ball down their left flank where the attack was repelled but recycled across the pitch for Otis Lewis to supply Theo Jeremy who embarked on a strong run down their right channel before he slipped the ball back to Lewis who played it into the corner where Jeremy was adjudged to be ‘offside’.

In reply Cirencester worked the ball down their left flank as Jordan Morris played the ball up to Harrison Reeves who produced an improvised flick with his heel to deliver the ball to Finley Bell, left channel – half-way line, and he sent a cross-field pass towards Aidan Bennett as he galloped down the right touchline but he was also adjudged to be ‘offside’.

A few minutes later Reeves exchanged passes with Jack Horrell near the centre circle before launching the ball towards the right flank where Bennett produced a sensational touch to control the ball with his outstretched left foot before moving forward and delivering a cross that rebounded off the home cross-bar.

During the next five minutes or so the home side threatened as they used the pace of Jeremy and Devanti McInerney to reach the corners of their respective flanks but once there the visitors defence stood firm so they tried the right channel as Jemar South-Thomas latched onto a through ball into the box but his shot was blocked by a covering Kyle Pitts.

Shortly before the 15-minute mark Bell supplied Bennett on the right flank and his cross resulted in a corner kick that Horrell headed onto the bar at the near post.

As the mid-point of the half approached, Pitts launched the ball down the right flank to the corner, prompting ‘keeper Louis Smith to leave his box, but Bennett won the ball near the by-line and sent it to the far side of the box where Reeves collected, shimmied to get past his markers, and shot towards the left post for Smith to catch as he recovered his ground.

At this point the home side had to make a few changes to their formation as defender Kyle Anderson replaced their injured striker, Jemar South-Thomas.

Corsham were producing some measured football as they worked the ball forward but were finding the visitors defence in resolute mood - although a McInerney strike from outside the box clipped the outside of the left post.

A few minutes later the deadlock was finally broken when a free kick was awarded to the visitors after Bell had been flattened in a challenge near the left channel front edge of the home box. JACK HORRELL stepped forward to send a precise right footed curling strike over the ‘wall’ and into the top right corner.  0-1.

As the interval approached Ross Gabriel collected a loose ball, centre 35 yards out, and moved it out to Bennett in the right corner and eventually it was delivered back to him to head goalwards, left channel – 12 yards out, but Smith was in position to make the catch.

Half Time:    0-1

After the interval the home side pressed forward to test the resolve of the visitor’s defence as Andre Freckleton charged down the right flank and Jeremy made a number of strong runs down their left flank under pressure from Lewis Thorne.

Shortly before the hour mark Anderson supplied Lewis who flicked the ball towards goal for ‘keeper Ronnie Newbery to collect.

Cirencester responded to these early threats as Reeves darted down the left channel to the home box but as he shaped to shoot Dejuan Tulloch came across to block.

Around the mid-point of the half the game became a little ‘tetchy’ with a couple of Yellow Cards issued before it settled down again and five minutes later Cirencester added a second goal when Morris made ground to the left corner to deliver a deep cross towards the right post where Bennett headed it down and towards the left of the Penalty Spot for a supporting HARRISON REEVES to strike a firm half-volley ‘on the run’ inside the left post.  0-2.

Seven minutes later, after winning the ball just inside the home half, JACK FREEMAN played the ball up to Bennett and continued his run to collect the return pass near the edge of the home box. From there he moved forward and ‘dinked’ it over a challenge and as Smith advanced, he calmly tucked a left-footed curler inside the left post.  0-3.

A couple of minutes later the hosts were reduced to ten men when Kyle Anderson wiped-out Reeves near half-way for the Referee to award him a Red Card.

With four minutes of the scheduled 90 remaining Cirencester added a fourth when they won the ball near half-way, right flank, and played it up to Harley Arnold and he in turn clipped it to FINLEY BELL who produced an audacious ‘chip’ from the edge of the home box over Smith and under the bar.

Despite the scoreline the home side continued to push forward as McInerney and Freckleton in the closing minutes.

Full Time:     0-4

A solid all-round team performance from The Centurions with everyone playing their part in a convincing victory.
