Match report produced from social media comments
CIRENCESTER TOWN made the long journey to Hereford for the return fixture against HEREFORD PEGASUS and returned empty handed after their host scored a goal either side of the interval.
Prior to the match the home side sat one place above Cirencester in the league table with 24 points from 21 games played whilst their visitors were in 15th place with 17 points from 20 games played. In the reverse fixture, played early in September, two Aidan Bennett goals secured victory for Cirencester and inevitably Hereford Pegasus would be looking to avenge that defeat whilst stretching their points lead.
Both sides struggled to get a grip of the strong wind and heavy rain on the 3G pitch during the first quarter, although the home side had an early chance as Isaac Cooper fired a free kick wide, but after Aidan Bennett delivered a cross into the home box that was too difficult for Ross Gabriel to make anything of it he sent a curler wide of the far-post.
Moments before the interval the home side scored when an alert HARRY PITMAN latched onto the ball in the visitor’s box and managed to poke it home from close range.
Half Time: 1-0
Cirencester made a change during the interval with Jack Horrell replacing Harrison Reeves.
Shortly after the hour mark ‘The Peggys’ added a second when JORDAN WILLIAMSON dived to head Isaac Cooper’s cross in from close range.
As the game was drawing to a close Cirencester had an effort cleared off the goal-line and a close-range shot go wide but it was too little too late.
In the closing minutes Williamson broke through on goal but his resulting ‘chip’ evaded ‘keeper Ronnie Newbery and the goal.
Full Time: 2-0
A match played in difficult conditions.
