WORCESTER RAIDERS visited The Talent Hire Stadium for the first time for this Uhlsport Hellenic League – Premier Division fixture and following a very competitive match a Penalty Kick in ‘added-time’ enabled ‘The Raiders’ to ‘snatch’ a point from the encounter.
Prior to the match ‘The Raiders’ sat in 12th place in the table with 15 points from their 11games played whilst Cirencester had secured 7 points from their 12 games to sit in 19th place.
The Cirencester starting eleven had a couple of changes, when compared with the team that lost narrowly to Royal Wootton Bassett Town in mid-week, as Luca Robinson returned after recovering from the injury he sustained against Mangotsfield United, and Ross Gabriel came into the side following a couple of appearances from the bench.
'The Raiders’ made a strong start to the game – aided by an early ten-minute ‘sin-bin’ for their hosts – and struck a post, but it was the home side that opened the scoring following a fine finish into the top left corner from JACK FREEMAN at the mid-point of the first half. 1-0.
The visitors levelled within two minutes through EMMANUEL OLALOKO and shortly afterwards Cirencester had to make an early substitution when Ogaga Edward replaced the stricken Jordan Morris. 1-1.
At the 30-minute mark the game was ‘end-to-end’ and Jack Horrell came close to scoring when he struck the bar.
A couple of minutes before the interval HARRISON REEVES opened his account for The Centurions with a cool finish as he slid it past the oncoming ‘keeper. 2-1.
Half Time: 2-1
The visitors made a ‘double-substitution’ before the hour mark and shortly afterwards Cirencester’s Ross Gabriel struck the bar from close range with a reflex shot.
The visitors responded to this narrow escape five minutes later when CARRICK HILL equalised - heading a looping corner kick home at the back post. 2-2.
Cirencester regained the lead for the third time when AIDAN BENNETT scored following a corner kick – with ten minutes remaining of the scheduled ninety. 3-2.
The game was not done yet as, for the second time in four games, the hosts conceded a Penalty kick in ‘added-time’ and once again victory was snatched from them as The Raiders Captain, JORDAN MURPHY, stepped forward to secure a point for his team. 3-3.
Full Time: 3-3
A competitive and highly entertaining game with plenty of goals, and near misses (including contact with the woodwork) at each end of the pitch.
