Mike Symons

Forward

DOB 22/07/1986

The big forward began his career with Western League Premier Division side Barnstaple Town, where he came through the youth ranks and made it into their senior squad during 2002.

He signed for League One side Bristol City in the summer of 2003, but was released a year later in 2004.

The striker returned to the Western League Premier Division with Bideford AFC that same summer and helped the club win the league title in 2005.

Symons moved onto Southern League Premier Division club Cirencester Town in January 2006 and became a regular at the club before leaving in March 2007.

Four days after his Ciren departure, he joined league rivals Clevedon Town and became a fan favourite with the Seasiders.

In the summer of 2008, he linked up with National League team Forest Green Rovers while joining Southern League Premier Division side Gloucester City on dual registration at the same time. He scored six goals in less than two months with the Tigers.

In September 2008, he ended up signing a full-time contract with FGR and netted three goals in 25 appearances for the non-league outfit.

The striker returned to Gloucester on a one-month loan during February 2009, which was then extended to the end of the season. He netted six goals in 15 appearances as he helped the Tigers win the Southern League Premier Division play-offs that season.

Following his Forest Green release in the summer of 2009, he joined Gloucester permanently in the National League North and scored 16 goals across 79 games before being released in May 2011.

He quickly linked up with National League North team Worcester City the following month and made 84 appearances while being an unused substitute once, as he scored 32 and assisted eight across the next two seasons.

He signed for league rivals Oxford City in May 2013 and made 42 appearances while being an unused substitute once, netting eight goals during the season.

He returned to Worcester in May 2014 and went on to score eight and assisting six during the 45 appearances he made in 2014-2015.

Symons made a return to Gloucester in May 2015 and found the net once in 14 appearances, while also getting two assists before being released from the Tigers in October 2015.

The experienced frontman wasn't to be without a club for long as he joined Midland League Premier Division side Hereford FC at the start of November 2015. He helped the Bulls to win the Midland League in 2016, the Southern League Division One South & West in 2017 and the Southern League Premier Division 2018. Hereford also won the Herefordshire County Cup during Symons' first three seasons there as well as the Midland Football League Cup 2016 and the Southern League 'Champions of Champions' cup in 2017.

After suffering a nasty injury in the summer of 2018, he signed for Southern League Premier Division side Swindon Supermarine during November of that year as he looked to regain full fitness. He made two appearances for Lee Spalding's side.

Symons joined the Seagulls on New Year's Eve 2019 as he departed Hereford having made 182 appearances and being an unused substitute seven times. He netted 65 goals and assisted 47 during his four years at Edgar Street.

He made himself an instant fan's favourite with a 94th-minute winner against Truro City on his debut a day after signing and his committed performances will continue into the 2020-2021 season.
