Matt Sysum

Defender

D.O.B: 29th August 1989

Matt came through the junior ranks at Gloucester City before breaking into their first team squad in the 2007-08 season. He found it difficult to gain a regular place in their starting line-up and came to Ciren on loan until the end of March 2009 in order to gain experience and valuable time on the pitch in Southern League football.

Immediately prior to agreeing the loan period, Gloucester City first team manager, David Mehew, rewarded him with a long term contract to confirm how valued he is at their club.

Matt made an immediate impression in our first team squad, making the right back position his own and filling in well, if required, at centre back. He has a lot of pace, wins his headers and provides good distribution out of defence, He also  weighed in with some important goals for us.

Unfortunately for us, Gloucester recalled Matt back from his loan period early, in February, due to the unavailability of other players.

Matt then returned to the Club, again on loan, in November 2008 before later in the season signing permanently on a permanent basis.

Matt left the club to sign for Evesham United during the 2012-13 season and also played for Cinderfrod Town before retiring aged 28 in 2018 for family reasons. He returned to footbal in a coaching role at Longlevens for the 2018-19 season
