DOWNEND FLYERS V CIRENCESTER TOWN LADIES

Downend Flyers 2 Cirencester Town Ladies 1

With a number of regulars out of the fixture, Ciren faced a tough match with just the bare eleven. A complete reshuffle of the team brought unfamiliarity but the Ladies adapted with merit.

A small away pitch meant that Town had to use a short, sharp, simple passing game. The Ladies struggled to keep the ball in Downends half in the first part of the game, leaving the Town defence of Barry, Dunn, Chaos, and Harvey to soak up the pressure. With a turn in tides, Ciren were then presented with a couple of half chances keeping possession well with intricate passing play. Unfortunately they didn’t convert. Against the play, Downend stormed Cirens penalty area and a well-timed tackle from Dunn led to an unfair penalty decision. Downend converted. 1-0.

Starting the second half brightly, yet again against the run of play Ciren conceded a scrappy goalmouth clash. However, with fighting spirit Town dominated the majority of the remainder over-powering midfield with defence joining in on the attack.

Finally, success came through immense passing prowess allowing SLewis a tap in. The Ladies continued to battle but unfortunately to no avail.

A match of good attitude and character.
