ABBEYMEAD ROVERS 0 - 9 CIRENCESTER TOWN

Cirencester remain joint top with a comfortable victory in terrible conditions against an inexperienced Abbeymead side who started the game in great spirits on a bitterly cold day.
Cirencester took the lead within 15 seconds when Katie Kingshott fired home from 25yds. Cirencester were dominant but were denied three times in as many minutes by the Rovers keeper with Chyna Collings, Frances Wilson and Jemma Brittain all coming close. Abbeymead lost a player through injury shortly after and Cirencester replaced 4 players with 3 subs to even the numbers. After 10 minutes it was two when Sam Bremner ran through on goal after a great pass from Chyna Collings. Soon after Sam added her second and Ciren`s third when the striker easily converted after a weak goal kick left her one on one with the Abbeymead ‘keeper.
Cirencester were shooting on sight and had numerous long range attempts before finally one hit the target, Chyna Collings the with a powerful right foot strike.

HT 0 - 4

The weather determinate rapidly in the second half, with heavy rain and at times a gale force wind. The game was now becoming a farce as the rain soaked pitch caused problems for the Centurions style of football and on one occasion Millie Beavis was clean through only to see the ball stick in a puddle on the penalty spot as she swung her right boot. Chyna Collings continued her great start to the season with another quality strike to make it five. Abbeymead were by now a dejected, well beaten side with the Centurions “frozen ‘keeper” Rebekah Nash not needing to make a save. Ciren made it six from Sammie Smith then Sam Bremner completed her hat trick, Frances Wilson added another before Sammie Smith added her second and Ciren’s 9th.
The final whistle got the biggest cheer as all the players and spectators were by now soaked and very cold.
Coach Martin Tuckwell said after the game “Although it was bitterly cold that was the most fun we have had for many weeks. All the players, including the Abbeymead team, left the pitch with huge smiles on their faces and the biggest cheer of the morning went to Millie and the fact that she was tackled by a puddle!!” He added “Great credit must go to Paul Cox and his players, they were fantastic given the result”
