CIRENCESTER TOWN 5 - 0 GLOUCESTER CITY

This was the “match of the day” in the U16s League with both teams having a 100% record before KO.
It was Cirencester who started the brighter with plenty of energy across the pitch but they failed to open up the Gloucester defence with a clear cut chance. Gloucester eventually settled after about 10 minutes with some good attacking football of their own and created the first real chance when the Cirencester defence backed off to allow the Gloucester player time to take a 20 yard shot, but the effort went wide.
Cirencester had a fantastic chance to break the deadlock after 18 minutes when a Katie Kingshott corner deceived everybody and should have been converted by Chyna Collings who failed to connect from just 2 yards out.
After 23 minutes Cirencester took the lead when Frances Wilson held off a strong challenge from the centre half, after Chyna Collings had put her through, beat the advancing keeper to the ball and prodded it into the corner.
Gloucester almost replied immediately when Hayley Desborough, the reliable full back, miss controlled allowing the winger in on goal, but fortunately for Cirencester she hurried her shot and it went wide.
The game was held up for 5 minutes when two Gloucester players clashed heads but thankfully there was no lasting effect and after treatment both players were able to continue.
The game was fairly evenly contested as both teams gave their all but the defences held the upper hand until the last five minutes of the first half when Cirencester scored three goals to leave Gloucester shell shocked. After 37 minutes Frances Wilson, who had last week filled in at centre forward and impressed so much she remained up front with the returning Emily Allen, bustled through the middle to calmly score and give Cirencester some breathing space. Cirencester’s third came from a goal keeping mistake when the keeper failed to collect a Katie Kingshott strike from 25 yards. Then right on half time Katie Kingshott struck again when she scrambled in an Ellie Maynard corner from close range. 4-0 flattered Cirencester as both teams had spells of good play.

Cirencester added a fifth after 8 minutes of the restart when Emily Allen was on hand to tap the ball over the line after Jemma Brittain`s chip came back off the crossbar.
Two minutes later it was almost six when Frances Wilson rattled the bar with a first time strike from fully 30 yards, but unfortunately Jemma Brittain could not convert the rebound.
Cirencester were always dangerous going forward and had the insurance of their rock steady back four with Hayley Desborough leading by example and showing great calmness and vision when coming forward and with Nelly Forbes and Kallie Roberts being first to everything the Gloucester forwards had very little time on the ball.

After 20 minutes Jemma Brittain played in Sam Bremner with a delightful pass but Gloucester’s central defender brilliantly tackled back with Sam about to shoot.
The game died soon after with Gloucester looking dejected and Cirencester playing out the remaining minutes, although Gloucester rattled the Cirencester bar with a rasping 25 yd shot after 35 minutes they never really created any real chances for themslves.
The final chance of the game fell to substitute Aimee Thomson but her weak effort, easily saved by the Gloucester ‘keeper, summed up the last 15 minutes of the game.
