CIRENCESTER TOWN 1 BRACKLEY TOWN 0 MONDAY 8TH OCTOBER 2007

That was some game.

Made my notes, started to write this report. But, in my opinion, Danny Hall captured exactly what this match was all about in the Wilts and Glos Standard and his eloquent writing says it all. So, read it here. And I'll go have a cuppa tea and do some other stuff. Enjoy

For those who like to have all the details, there is a bit of info to add to Danny's piece.

Referee: Mr M Rowley, Reading. We've had him in the past and as before he was on the spot for everything, used his nous and kept the game flowing. And when he did not see something and it was pointed out to him, his response was reasonable enough to be accepted without inflaming the situation.

The disallowed 'offside' goal in the 90th minute was a case in point. Robbo won a towering header against Michael Love off a Jon Else volley forward. The flick on went down the left side of Martin Brown while Oggy spun and went past Brown on the defender's right.

Oggy away, in the clear, the whole incident took but an instant and the lino, right in line, flagged. I was also in line and I thought that when Robbo connected Oggy was still spinning and going. By the time he connected with the ball he was clear. But not offside when the pass was made. As always, it is a matter of give what you see.

What the ref saw was Oggy score a peach. And booked him. I asked the ref about it afterwards. His comment? "I said to Mr Hunt 'delay of the game, I have to book that'. And Oggy said 'ref, I didn't hear the whistle. Anyway, what a good goal, eh?' And I booked him"

At the end of a draining match, that's the way for a ref to treat a player. And the way for a player to treat a ref. They too have a job to do and just like the players do their best to get it right

Attendance: 153 For us, our first Monday night game and not at all bad. Very interesting to see the managers from Chipp, Yate, Gloucester there. And a fella from our grown up neighbours, FGR. Hmm. Looking at somebody?

MoM? I thought Tom Winters the Brackley left winger was superb. Pace, touch, confidence, early eye for a pass and boy, could he put in the killer crosses. Our boys in the middle had to work big time to stay focussed and make sure they got there first.

As Danny says in his report, you really could not pick out a player who made the difference in a match like that. All 13 Ciren players made the difference.

It took ages to drag a decision out of the Clubhouse voters, almost all of them saying exactly that. By 1 vote ahead of Nathan and Bully, equal second, the clubhouse vote went to Lee Molyneux.
