The first Pre-Season Friendly brought neighbours SWINDON SUPERMARINE of the Southern League - Premier Division South to The Corinium Stadium and it was the visitors that scored two goals in three minutes mid-way through the first half to take the initiative and added a third a couple of minutes from full time.

On a cool evening ‘Marine’ kicked off playing towards ‘The Shed’ end of the ground but their initial attack was defended enabling Cirencester to counter down their left flank and as Levi Irving chased a ball into the visitors Penalty Area ‘keeper Conor Johns darted forward to dive on it and prevent any further progress.

A minute or so later Johns was in action again as he caught a Jordan Morris cross from the left corner at the back post under pressure.

A promising start from the home side but it was the visitors that had the first pot at goal when Zak Kotwica cut in from the left flank and shot towards the left post – comfortably gathered by custodian Alex Harris.

‘Marine’ were countering quickly with Henry Spalding finding room on their right flank and one of his crosses reached James Harding who flicked it over the home goal at the near post.

As the mid-point of the half approached Harding delivered a free kick from the left flank into the home box resulting in a corner kick from the right that Spalding drove low towards the near post where JAMIE EDGE darted forward to convert with a clever strike.  0-1.

Three minutes later the visitors added another as HENRY SPALDING received the ball on the right flank and was allowed to advance to the edge of the Penalty Area where he produced one of his customary left footed curlers into the top left corner.  0-2

Cirencester responded positively to this setback as they attacked down their right flank and within minutes Jordan Lymn galloped down the right channel before striking his shot from 25 yards against the visitors cross-bar.

Around the half-hour mark Joe Shepherd made a couple of strong runs into the ‘Marine’ box and ended up on the ground but the Referee saw nothing untoward and play continued.

Shortly afterwards Nick Peare attempted a speculative shot from 40 yards but the alert Johns safely caught it.

As the interval approached George Rowling fired wide of the left post and Kotwica had an effort parried and gathered by Harris.

Half Time:   0-2

During the interval ‘Marine’ made three substitutions and Cirencester one and it wasn’t long before further changes were made to ensure everyone had a run-out and inevitably this had an impact on the game.

Around the hour mark ‘Marines’ Trialist ‘B’ produced some neat footwork on the left by-line to supply Rowling who flicked the ball past the left post whilst for Cirencester Reegan Messenger’s strike was pushed wide of the far post for a corner kick.

With 15 minutes remaining Brad Hooper won the ball to supply Trialist ‘A’ who sent his left footed shot over the bar.

As the visitors pressed Cirencester worked the ball out of defence well to counter with Sergio Mills firing over the bar.

Shortly afterwards Ross Gabriel‘s 30 yards effort was deflected for a corner kick but with a couple of minutes to go ‘Marine’ worked the ball from left to right to release TRIALIST ‘B’ into the right channel of the home box and he confidently tucked the ball inside the far left post.  0-3.

Full Time:   0-3

Considering both squads have only had a few training sessions the game was played at a good pace and certainly was a good work-out in their preparations for the new season.
