Pre-Season 2021-22

Friendly

Cirencester Town  0 – 3  Chippenham Town

Match Report by Dave Pyzer

Chippenham Town of the National League South were the first to visit The Corinium Stadium for a pre-season friendly match and after a very slick performance they ran out 3-0 victors.

The visitors made the perfect start by scoring their first goal within 4 minutes of kick-off as their No. 9 made a quick dart down the left flank to square the ball to the penalty spot where No. 11 was on hand to side foot inside the right post.  0-1.

Cirencester reacted well to the setback as they worked the ball down their left flank for their Trialist to cut inside the penalty area to fire a low shot at the target for the Chippenham ‘keeper to push it around his right post.

Chippenham were producing some quick, slick passing and movement but Cirencester were also dangerous on the counter with Brad Gray and Tommy Anderson combining to good effect as the former struck the left post following a sharp turn.

As the half was drawing to a close Anderson sent a low cross from the right that the incoming Joe Shepherd nearly made contact with, near the edge of the 6-yard box, before it reached Aidan Bennett at the back post but his effort was blocked.

Half Time:  0-1

The second half began at the same fast pace as the first with both sides pressing and 11 minutes into the half Chippenham increased their lead when a deep cross from their left flank reached No. 11 at the back post and he produced a superb right-footed half-volley that flew into the top right corner.  0-2.

Once again Cirencester reacted well to win a corner kick that was cleared to a lurking Jordan Morris who struck an instant volley towards the right post for the ‘keeper to make a diving save.

After the hour mark both sides began to make substitutions but despite this play continued at pace with Chippenham pressing and Cirencester counter attacking.

As the game entered the final 15 minutes Chippenham scored their third when they reached the by-line to pull the ball back towards the penalty spot where No. 18 fired inside the left post past an unsighted Alex Harris.  0-3.

Full Time:  0-3

An entertaining match of fast, free flowing football with the visitors looking very sharp and Cirencester competing well.

Another good work-out in preparation for the upcoming season.
