Southern League Premier Division

Paulton Rovers 2 - 1 Cirencester Town

Cirencester Town travelled to Paulton Rovers in the opening match of the league season.

A closely fought match was anticipated between the two clubs who had achieved promotion from Divison 1 South & West, Ciren as the Champions and Paulton as the Play Off Winners. Ciren started the match playing down the slope.

Paulton had an excellent opportunity to go ahead after 4 mins when their top scorer last season,, Nick McCootie, went on a mazy run, rounded Ciren keeper Gyn Garner only for Ben Prictor to put in a superb tackle to prevent him from scoring.

On 26 mins Paulton did go ahead when Brandon Barnes was set free by Jon Davies, and scored with a great shot past Glyn Garner.

Their lead was shortlived however, when two minutes later Ciren were awarded a corner on the right which was well taken by Ben Wells and superbly headed in to the net by Mark Pritchett.

The score remained 1-1 at half time.

Both sides came out strongly at the beginning of the second half, and on 49 mins Nick McCootie went on another run before scoring with a great shot to restore Paulton's lead.

Paulton had a couple more chances from distance to increase their lead and Nat Jarvis, making his league debut for Ciren, was very unlucky not to score when he beat Paulton's keeper, Kyle Phillips, to a cross and his flicked header went narrowly past the left hand post.

Ciren continued to compete right to the end but without really creating any more chances, and Paulton ran out deserved winners in their first ever Southern League Premier Division match.
