Poole Town 3 - 0 Cirencester Town
Match Report by Michael Mabbett
On the 8th December Cirencester Town travelled to high flying Poole Town for this top of the table clash which was to see Poole take all three points.
Poole Town took the lead in the 14th minute after a low cross into the goal area was met by Warren Byerley at the far post who had the simple task of tapping the ball into the net.
The rest of the first half was fairly even with Ciren having three good opportunities the first one falling to George Washbourne. After a good run down the left he jinked his way into the box before firing a low shot into the far corner which Nick Hutchings managed to get a hand to, pushing it out for a corner.
Within ten mins both Scott Griffin and James Mortimer-Jones went close with goal attempts. It was an even first half but come the whistle, Poole headed off to the dressing rooms with a one goal lead.
Poole started the second half looking determined to increase their lead helped enormously by a large supportative crowd. It was in the 51st min they increased their lead when a long high ball to the far post was headed back into the 6 yard box where Byerley was on hand to smash the ball into the net. Four mins later Michael Walker made it 3-0.
The second half was dominated by Poole, restricting Ciren to few chances. In the 83rd minute, a Ben Wells free kick found Sam Collier’s head who saw his goal bound effort saved by Hutchings at the far post. Sam landed awkwardly on his left foot and was stretchered off and taken to Poole hospital.
It was much appreciated by all at Ciren for the applause and kind consideration shown by the Poole supporters for Sam. Fortunately, the diagnosis was that Sam's ankle was not broken, just very badly sprained as can be seen from the photo below!:
The match finished Poole 3-0 Cirencester.
