Evo-Stik League Southern Division 1 S&W

Cirencester Town 2 - 0 Didcot Town

Cirencester welcomed Didcot Town to the Corinium Stadium for this our fourth league game. This was officially the first day of Autumn and we were blessed with fine weather and a good crowd of 105 supporters.

Ciren were fielding a pretty much unchanged team from the Swindon Supermarine match with the exception of Mansell who was out injured and Bennett replacing.

The first fifteen minutes saw Ciren having the upper hand, and it was only a minute later when Ciren were awarded a free kick on the right and from 25 yards Ben Wells hit a inch perfect cross onto the head of Jamie Reid who met the ball full on and crashed the ball into the net to give Ciren the lead.

Within the next ten minutes Didcot had three corners and Sam Elkins saw a long shot fly past the post. In the 24th minute a good low cross just escaped the outstretched foot of Reid, and four minutes later Didcot could have equalised when James Clarke had only the Ciren keeper to beat but pushed it wide of the post.

The remainder of the half saw both teams have good opportunities, but it finished with Ciren having a 1-0 lead.

The first chance of the second half fell to Haysham of Didcot who's long effort flew past the post. In the 50th minute with his back to the goal, Scott Griffin bought the ball under control, he eluded two defenders, and sent an inch perfect pass down the left for Bennett to send a low cross for the waiting Sam Collier to net from close rang., This is just the boost Sam needed, Ciren 2 up.

In the 59th minute Griffin trapped a high ball and with good skill turned the defender and hammered a left footed shot which was just over the bar. Two minutes later a Wells free kick beat everyone and mu h to Bennett's surprise the ball dropped at his feet, he was not able to gain control of the ball and the keeper snapped it up.

In the 74th minute Danny Hale replaced Scott Griffin and four minutes later Joe Sheppard came on for Jamie Reid.

In the 80th minute Ciren had a great chance to increase their lead when a goal mouth scramble saw Didcot struggle to clear. In the 83rd minute Ciren replaced Sam Collier with Sam Packer, this saw Packer go to the left and Bennett move into midfield.

Didcot had a good chance to pull one back in the 87th minute when James Clarke had only the Ciren keeper to beat from 5 yards and put it wide.

The referee brought the game to an end in the 92nd minute with Ciren winning 2-0 and a well deserved victory.

This was a good spirited game, good football, no bookings and a hard fought enjoyable game to watch.

Picking the Cirencester man of the match was a toughie, as every player gave their all, however there has to be a winner and it was that man Jamie Reid again who got the nod, and was awarded the Four Pillars Hotel Man of the Match and a bottle of RED!!

There was good camaraderie amongst the Ciren players in the clubhouse after the match which bodes well for our forthcoming matches. ''Come on Ciren''.
