Pre-Season Friendly

Cirencester Town 5 - 1 Gloucester City

Gloucester fielded a mixed team with youth and experience, Cirencester on the back of three very good results welcoming Matt Sysum back from holiday to fill the hole as both Ben Wells and Chris Thompson were out with injuries.

Ciren included Conor Thompson, son of former Centurion keeper Paul Thompson, in goal, standing in for Matt Bath who was on holiday.

Gloucester City went straight on the attack with a quick move down the right the ball was moved forward to Brett Jones who's long high cross found Ben Hunt unmarked on the edge of the five yard box with a powerful right footed shot which he fired into the middle of the Ciren goal to give Gloucester the lead.

In the 7th minute a good cross from Bennett found Collier with just the keeper to beat but his headed attempt was off target. A minute later a long racking shot from Allard sneaked over the bar.

In the 11th minute, after some excellent passing, the ball was shielded by Collier and knocked back to Allard and from 25 yards he right footed/chipped the keeper into the top right hand corner of the net.

Ciren were now on fire, attacking from all angles and giving Gloucester plenty to think about! for the remainder of the 1st half both teams played attacking football with Ciren having the better opportunities.

H.T. Ciren 1-1 Glous.

As the second half resumed there was hardly time to settle down as after 1 minute, with a goal mouth tussle, the referee awarded Ciren a penalty much to the dismay of the Gloucester supporters, Sam Collier stood up to the plate and with a left footed shot knocked the ball into the corner of the net wrong footing the Gloucester keeper to give Ciren the lead. Three minutes later it was that man Allard again with a left footed shot finding the side netting..

Within two minutes another good passing movement from Ciren found Danny Hale on the right hand side and with a powerful shot into the left-hand corner it's Ciren 3-1

Brian Hughes after 55 minutes made four substitutes bringing off Collier, Bennett, Hale and Reid , bringing on Griffin, O'Brien, Williams and Bumphrey.

In the 58th minute a fine shot from Bumphrey came off the Gloucester keeper straight to the waiting Mortimer-Jones who headed the ball into the open goal.

Gloucester were unlucky in the 60th minute when a shot from Minett clipped the post.

Ciren made a nice move down the right with a long ball over to the left which was nodded by Griffin on to Alex Allard who smashed it into the net to give Ciren a commanding lead,

With 10 minutes remaining, Matt Sysum gave way for Richard Mansell, who after a long injury, was eager to show the Ciren fans he is fit and ready! He did not disappoint making a instant impact showing determination, skill and leadership.

The final result was a resounding 5-1 win for Cirencester.

This was another very fine performance from Cirencester and the coconscious of opinion amongst the diehards at the Corinium are we have a great squad of players and prospects for the coming season look very good indeed.
