Evo-Stik League Southern Prmier Division

Cirencester Town 0 - 2 St Albans City

Cirencester welcomed St Albans City to the Centurion Stadium on a cloudy but mild day. After recent rain the pitch was in good condition for this Southern Premier match.
Straight from the kick off Ciren showed determination attacking down the flanks. After six minutes Ciren had a corner which ended with Scott Griffin;s acrobatic shot flying over the bar. Two minutes later Ciren had a second corner after Jon Else's shot had been pushed out by the keeper, Ciren continued to apply pressure with Griffin keeping the St Albans defence busy.
Against the run of play a great ball which split the Ciren defence was played through to Newton whose run and cross into the box was met by Chris Henry who had the simple task of knocking it in for the lead.
Ciren continued to attack with Jamie Dunn being involved with several headed attempts from corners. In the 40th minute Bennett had a good opportunity within the goalmouth area but mis-hit his shot over the bar.
In the 32nd minute a long ball down the left was controlled by Henry who fired a low shot into the Ciren net.
The second half was dominated by Ciren as they continued to keep St Albans under pressure with shots from Dunn, Westlake, Mortimer-Jones and Bennett keeping the Nick Jupp, the St Albans keeper, very busy and to his credit he made some fine finger tip saves.

Once again it was not to be for Ciren who had the majority of possession but could not find that finishing touch. Cirencester 0-2 St Albans City.
Although now relegated, spirits are high for next season at Cirencester having made the decision to stay in the Southern League.

Jamie Reid was awarded the Four Pillars Hotel Man of the Match Award.
