Cirencester Town FC
The home of football, corporate events, courses and celebrations
The Cirencester Town Development Squad progressed into the final of the Chairman’s’ Challenge Reserve Cup after a 5 – 1 win over Wantage Town last Saturday.
On what must have been the best day for football so far this year, the young team initially struggled to make the breakthrough despite dominating proceedings hitting the post as well as putting shots wide, over or straight at the keeper before Bumphrey broke the deadlock in the 24th minute with a well taken strike. The rest if the first half was frustrating to watch as Cirencester could not get the all-important second.
Soon after the half time team talk Bumphrey scored the second, the supported now relaxed a little but so did the team and Wantage managed to get a goal against the run of play to give them hope and the supporters the jitters. These were soon allayed when Bumphrey scored his third in the 54th minute to restore the 2 gaol advantage. The game now settled in to a pattern of Ciren attacks ably seen off by a spirited Wantage team. After a couple of substitutions Bond scored the fourth and Roberts the fifth to take the team through.
After the disappointment of Gloucester pulling out of the league which meant that a runner up spot is almost out of sight, this was a good all round performance and it will take a good team to beat them in the final.
The final is on 1st May at Milton United against Binfield (who are 2nd in the Eastern league)
