Uhlsport Hellenic Football League Division 2 West

Cirencester Town 8 - 0 Letcombe FC

Match Report by A Smith

Manager Clive Messenger had to make changes this week due to the loss of Tim Bond and Kieran Jones to county duties, Shane Bumphrey to an injury picked up last week and Ollie Pitt due to long term recovery from a nose operation. Scott Nurland (a new signing from Bibury) made his debut up front.

Cirencester started in a very lively fashion when Dan Roberts made a good probing run and managed to get a shot off in the third minute but things got better when in the 8th minute Liam James spilt the defense with a well-placed pass to Jack Smith who slotted the ball passed the Letcombe keeper. Cirencester now continued to pressure the Letcombe goal and Nurland had his first chance in the16th minue when Dan Hill and Smith combined to put him through only for the keeper to make a save.

The next 5 minutes saw a shot from Dan Roberts go inches over and Kyle Pitts head just wide after a long throw from Liam O’Brien. Lee Clatworthy was called on to make an excellent save when Letcombe managed to break away and create their first chance of the game however, Cirencester made it 2 nil on 29 minutes when Hill finished from a tight angle after Smith set him up.

4 minutes later Hill turned provider when he put through Nurland who scored his debut goal, who in turn provided the pass that set up Smith for his second. The third goal in 3 minutes was taken by Hill for his second of the match with the provider being Smith.

Half time 5 – 0

The second half started with the Cirencester supporters wondering how many we would score. If the young team could continue to play the same way then more goals would be forth coming.

Almost straight from the kick off O’Brien ran through the Letcombe team and saw a good shot pushed wide. The resulting corner was converted by Pitts to make it 6 nil.

The game settled down and Letcombe managed to keep the attacks out until the 80th minute, despite Tom Jehu going very close after a good flick on by Nurland. Roberts connected superbly with a volley which rebound off the post and Nurland was able to score his second. Smith had the post to blame for denying him his hat-trick but again turns provider when he provided a good cross which was headed in by Roberts to make it 8 nil.

Final score 8 – 0

Next match Saturday 13th away at Shrivenham.
