Clanfield 85 FC 0 - 4 Cirencester Town

Match Report by A Smith

The development squad travelled to the countryside for their 4th away match on the trot on Saturday and dominated from the start.

Cirencester started very brightly with Bond having a shot that scrapped the crossbar and a header just wide while James also had a shot that just went over before Clanfield broke away and Clatworthy pulled off the first of many good saves, all within the first 20 minutes. After this Cirencester seemed to fade and the game got very scrappy with little of any note until Bond and Roberts combined to put Jack Smith through and although his initial shot was saved by the Clanfield keeper,  followed up to make in 1 – 0.

At half-time Ciren were winning by this single goal but in all honesty it should have been more.

Clanfield played much better after the break but again the early action should have seen Ciren increase their lead when James making a good run but the resulting shot was weak and easily gathered by the keeper, and Bond got his head to a corner which was going in but for a good save from the keeper.

On 60 minutes a tactical substitution was made with Ollie Pitt coming on for Luke Allen and James Smith coming on for Robert Mant however this nearly proved fatal when a terrific free kick from Clanfield pulled yet another good save from Clatworthy. With the action now a little bit more even Ciren earned a corner which was taken by Ollie Pitt which was met by Kyle Pitts to make it 2 – 0.

Jack Smith continued to be a thorn in the side of the Clanfield defence and made the keeper pull off several saves before being substituted in the 72nd minute for Dan Hill. The game now settled in a familiar pattern with Ciren having most of the play and this was rewarded when Pitt and Bond set up Roberts in the 81st minute to make it 3 – 0.

Despite being outplayed for much of the game Clanfield did not give up and but for the excellent keeping of Clatworthy could have had a consolation goal when the striker broke clear to be one on one but Clatters managed to make himself big….

The fourth and final goal was scored by James Smith in the 85th minute when he unleashed an unstoppable shot.

In the end it was an easy win for Cirencester
