WILLEM POOLEY's first goal, deep into 'added-time', secures victory for The Centurions over table-topping Biggleswade Town

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Biggleswade Town  1 - 2  Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the long journey across the country for a mid-week fixture against league leaders Biggleswade Town and following a tetchy affair in pouring rain came away with the 3-points as Willem Pooley scored the winner deep into ‘added-time’.

Despite the 3-hour journey and fairly late arrival of some of the squad Cirencester opened the match in positive fashion as they mounted a number of attacks down their left flank with the home ‘keeper called upon to make a couple of early saves.

The Waders countered and were awarded a free kick on their right flank that HARRY DRAPER headed inside the left post.

The home side pressed forward for a few minutes whilst The Centurions regrouped and after a period of Cirencester pressure HARRY BURNS equalised with a firm strike into the top left corner.

Leading up to the interval the game became more contentious with both sides having handball shouts denied and minutes before the break a home player was dismissed.

After the interval Cirencester dominated possession, with their extra man advantage, whilst The Waders sat back waiting to pounce and the game became even more fractious with a number of Cards being issued to the home side and deep into added-time the home ‘keeper was also dismissed by the Referee.

Cirencester scored the ‘winner’ deep into ‘added-time’ when WILLEM POOLEY pounced to drive the ball home.
