Missed chances cost Cirencester as 'The Eagles' take the points in 'added-time'

Pitching In Southern League

Division 1 Central

Stotfold FC  2 - 1  Cirencester Town

The Centurions made the long journey across the country to meet Stotfold FC and returned ‘empty-handed’ following a very late strike from their hosts in ‘added-time’.

Cirencester opened the match with their usual positive start but ‘keeper Stuart Nelson had to make a couple of excellent saves to prevent their hosts from scoring in the first quarter before Felix Miles ‘chipped’ the ball over the home custodian and goal in a 1v1.

Shortly afterwards the visitors Dan Hill was carried off on a stretcher following a committed tackle to be replaced by Aidan Bennett.

In a fairly dour game it took a moment of magic in ‘added-time’ to open the scoring as BEN WHITEHEAD collected the ball 30 yards out, held off a couple of challenges and unleashed a superb strike into the top right corner of the goal.

Cirencester missed the chance to increase their lead 5-minutes into the second period with another 1v1 and this served to encourage their hosts who began to threaten more regularly, and as the game entered the final 10-minutes Stotfold levelled when MATTHEW BALL was on hand to head home as the ball broke loose when Nelson was challenged as he leapt to catch.

The home side secured the points in ‘added-time’ when a shot from LEWIS FRANKLIN found the back of the net despite a partial block.
